Apartment, 50 metres from the sandy beach in El Puerto de Santa Maria, situated at the bay of Cádiz. This region is called Costa de la Luz, meaning Coast of the Light. The area is especially attractive for those who like the beach, woods and mountains. The area is not too hilly, and therefore suitable for cycling.  Other options are walking, playing golf and sailing.

For further information, please write to [email protected] or phone 0034 609 140 335. You can see our apartment on,-6.2846518,19z?hl=en.

The apartment

Idieel house for two persons almost on the groundfloor, it consists of two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a large one and a smaller one of each. Living and dining room with sliding doors giving access to a large terrace. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave oven, electric kettle, fridge, freezer, cooker with 4 hotplates and coffee maker. From the livingroom you have view onto the Atlantic Ocean. The terrace is spacious and has a large table with comfortable chairs, together with a spectacular view.

The apartment is situated in the quarter “El Manantial”, a fairly luxurious and quiet quarter with family homes. At a distance of 50 metres you will find a sandy beach and a short promenade which gives access to another sandy beach with a length of 3 kms. It is a tidal beach, so at low tide there is a lot of walking space. At a distance of 40 metres, almost on the beach, you will find a small, pleasant bar. The Atlantic coast of Spain has broad yellow sand beaches.

At the entrance of the quarter, at approximately 300 meters, you will find a small shopping centre, as well as the busstop for the local bus. Three restaurants are situated at 400 metres distance, as well as some very pleasant cafés/bars. At just one small kilometers distance, easy to walk, you will find a larger supermarket.

The town El Puerto de Santa Maria is very pleasant, cosy, old and has a large number of merchants houses. A number of them have been restored nicely. The centre offers you a large number of small bars and good restaurants. The restaurant “Aponiente” has been awarded with two Michelin stars and is located in the old tidemil "El Caño" with was constructed in 1815 and resently restored.

The province of Cádiz

The villages and towns in this area are over 3000 years old. Cádiz and El Puerto de Santa Maria have both been founded by the Phoenicians. The old centre of Cádiz is well worth a visit; it is situated on a peninsula in the Atlantic Ocean. This area offers a lot of history and art, as well as a beautiful scenery with for instance cork oak forests.

At a distance of approximately 20 kms you will find the wine town Jerez de la Frontera with its cosy center. Jerez is well known by the Flamenco music and dances, as well as its very special sherry wine. Spend an afternoon or evening in the Tabancos of Jerez and enjoy live flamenco singing and dancing.

The cities of Sevilla, with yet more art and also a lot of history, and Cordoba with its cathedral-mosque (very special) are accessible by train.

Eating and drinking

The speciality of the region are all sorts of large and small fishes. I did not particularly like fish, but since I live here, I do. The fish-tapas are to be recommended, there is plenty of choice. The region is also well known for its many wine houses, particularly sherry-houses which produce a large number of different drinks. I advise you to taste and judge for yourself.

Sailing and fishing

Sailing and fishing can be negotiated, on the Atlantic Ocean of course.

The climate of Cádiz is very mild, since the ocean water prevents extreme temperatures. In winter temperatures will never be below 10 degrees during the night, and during the day when the sun is shining, a temperature of 20 degrees is easily tob e reached. In summer it will never be warmer than 35 degrees. Storms do occur, but always briefly and also spectacular to watch.

I am a Dutchman who has been living in Spain for over 25 years. The apartment is entirely individual. No stairs or elevators. From the street it is a 10 metres walk on a path to reach the front door (there is no back door). The apartment is situated on the ground floor of a complex of four terrace apartments in total (see the picture).
